Mandy wanted to do something fun with the kids for Mother’s Day instead of it just being ‘another’ day and paying too much to eat a nice meal. So we decided to go to Hamilton Pool out in Austin! She said she teared up when I brought up the idea.
So we loaded up Sunday morning and set out on the 3-hour drive.
It rained on us, but once you get down to the pool (about a 1/4 mile hike), you’re shaded from all of the rain. It would’ve been worth it anyway.
The water was absolutely FREEZING, but once we got in, we got used to it. And by the way, HAVE YOU SEEN HOW BEAUTIFUL IT IS?! Totally worth it. 10/10, will go again!
I swam out to the middle with Rena to get underneath one of the smaller falls that trickles down, about 20 feet. The water was taking the breath out of me, so I imagine it was extra tough for her little 8-year-old self, but I had a big time #proudpapa moment when we were swimming and I asked if she was OK.
She told me that she was telling herself not to panic. How cool is that? That’s a lesson she won’t get from the classroom, and she learned about herself that she could do it, even if it was scary. The thrill of looking up and watching the water come down is worth the threat of the freezing water. All of the girls did great and I couldn’t have been more proud.
There was also a little half-mile hike down by the river that provided more views of the same beautiful water.
We had a great time and the best Mother’s Day. I’ve been surprised by how many people have never been there. We hadn’t before, but we will certainly be back.
